How to Become Better with Mompreneur Planning

Being a mom business owner is no easy task. Balancing the demands of motherhood and entrepreneurship requires careful planning and strategic time management. If you want to have more ideas on how to plan as a mompreneur, this blog has ten tips to help you plan successfully. Here are ten quick tips to help you become better with planning for your home and business.

  1. Prioritize Your Tasks:

Not all tasks are created equal. Identify the most important tasks and tackle them first. I recommend that you focus on the most important tasks you wrote on your daily planner. Once you accomplished those and if you have extra time and energy, you can add another priority task or, celebrate your accomplishment by giving yourself a simple treat for accomplishing your day’s priority task/s. In this way, you can permit yourself to address other items in your planner. For mompreneurs like us, we can decide whether this day is more on a work mode day or more of a family/household day.

     2. Use Time Blocking:

Dedicate specific time blocks for different activities throughout the day to ensure you are not spreading yourself too thin. A pro tip is allotting an approximate time for your day’s major tasks. A task can seem overwhelming but if you assign an estimated time for its completion, you can look at that task more objectively. You can reschedule it if you think it will take longer than you have the time for it on a given day. Or you will do it because you labelled it as a task that you can do in 15 to 30 minutes. For example, you can time-block writing a blog post or researching an idea for making a printable product. Will you be able to allot two to three hours to work on a blog post, one hour to creating a printable, or 40 minutes to prepare a dish?

I find that allotting time to tasks helps me focus on those tasks, enabling me to accomplish them.

      3. Use a Dedicated Mompreneur Planner:

A good planner can help you stay organized and keep track of your tasks and appointments both for home and for your business. The Mompreneur’s Planner (PLR) is a versatile one to use. It also gives you the option to use for yourself or customize it to sell in your shop.

      4. Set Daily Realistic Goals:

Setting achievable goals can help you stay motivated and focused. Try writing down a time limit even for your daily goals. Your goals need to have a deadline, which means it should have a start date and an end date. For example, if your linen closet needs decluttering especially if you have not had the time to sort it out in six months or more, a realistic goal for the day would be:

  • spend 30 minutes removing unwanted things
  • and in your next plan, you can write "spend 30 minutes for removing things for donation". You can then schedule this in your planner at a time that is ideal for you.

By making your goal realistic and specific, your mind will have a specific action to act on, reducing mental overwhelm.

      5. Be Ready to Delegate:

Don't hesitate to delegate tasks, whether at home or in your business, to free up more time for essential tasks.  You can do this by looking at your priorities. Which tasks must you absolutely do yourself? Which task can you hire help with or assign others to do?

      6. Take Scheduled Breaks:

Regular breaks can help prevent burnout and keep your productivity levels high. For me, coffee or tea breaks are great, so are five-minute stretches and regular meals. As there are always room for improvement, find stretch routines that you like or have a few ones for variety.

      7. Stay Flexible:

Unexpected things happen. Be okay with not accomplishing everything you wrote down as today’s goal/s. Look at your planner page. How many have you written down that you’ve accomplished? How many have you written down on that day that you normally wouldn’t have accomplished had you not written it down on that day’s to do page? Chances are, you did more than you give yourself credit to. If you feel you should have done more, just write down your next steps for a particular task.

      8. Use a variety of tools:

There are many apps and tools available that can help streamline your tasks and save you time. You can also use digital planners. The best approach for me so far is using a hybrid way to plan. The way I do it is to use this printable mompreneur’s planner to do my general planning. I then use some digital apps for specific business tasks as needed.

     9. Remember Self-Care:

  1. Remember to take care of yourself. Self-care, when done regularly, can contribute to your having a business that is enjoyable and sustainable for you. And like anything else worth achieving, making sure self-care is happening in your life, is to include it in your planning. A self-care planner is a great tool to help you organize your self-care routine, supplies and schedule. There are a few self-care planners that will be available for sale in this site. Currently, this planner and this planner are available.

    10. Celebrate Small Wins:

Celebrate your achievements, both small and big. I can easily overlook planning for self-care but with the help of a self-care planner, I have more success in incorporating wellbeing activities regularly. It is easy to move on to the next task when you have accomplished something noteworthy. By noteworthy here, I meant anything that made a difference to your processes, or goals, whether long term or short term, including just your “Today’s Goal/s”.

In this blog, I included an image on how I used planner pages to plan one Saturday. Included in the image is a picture of my shepherd’s pie (the dish I planned for that day’s lunch), planner pages and an affirmation card. As an update, that day turned out busier than I expected so I had to put my resetting task for another day and reduce it to a 30-minute plan :) Overall, my day turned out productive because I got all the other tasks done.

Remember, becoming better at mompreneur planning does not happen overnight. But with these tips, you can start making improvements today. A planner, especially a planner set, can help remind you of these tips either on a single page or through a number of pages through the helpful prompts and pages they provide. They can also help you be consistent in your efforts to plan, track, and achieve your goals. Happy planning!
